"NETHER WITTON PAROCHIAL CHAPELRY. This Chapelry comprises the townships of Coat Yards, Ewesley, Healey and Comb Hill, Nether Witton, Nunnykirk, Ritton, and Colt Park, and Ritton White House. It is bounded by the parishes of Rothbury, Long Horsley, and Hartburn, to the latter of which it is annexed for ecclesiastical purposes, and consists chiefly of a fine rich vale, which comprises an area of 7,723 acres. Its population in 1801, was 494; in 1811, 439; in 1821, 460; in 1831, 520; in 1841, 464; and in 1851, 489 souls." [From History, Topography, and Directory of Northumberland, Whellan, 1855].

• This area is divided between Northumberland Central Registration District (Superintendent Registrar, Register Office, 94 Newgate Street, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 1BU) and Northumberland North 2nd Registration District (Superintendent Registrar, Register Office, 6 Market Place, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 1HP). Certificates of birth, death and marriage can be obtained from the addresses shown. If ordering certificates from a District Office, please note the following:
  
  
  1. The cost of a certificate is currently (from 1st April 2003) £ 7.00 - send a Sterling cheque payable to the Superintendent Registrar plus return postage or two International Reply Coupons;

Poorhouses, Poor Law, etc.

• Netherwitton Parish was part of Morpeth Poor Law Union. The Union Workhouse was located in Newgate Street, Morpeth. Some records are held at Northumberland Collections Service, but these are of limited genealogical value.
