National Gazetteer (1868) - Guyson
"GUYSON, (or Guyzance), a township in the parish of Shilbottle, ward of
Coquetdale, county Northumberland, 8 miles S.E. of Alnwick. It is situated
on the river Coquet, and contains the hamlet of Brainshough. Here was a
small nunnery, founded by Richard Tyson in the 12th century, and
subsequently annexed to Alnwick Abbey.
