National Gazetteer (1868) - Byrness

"BYRNESS, (or Burness or Bereness), a chapelry in the parish of Elsdon, ward of Coquetdale, in the county of Northumberland, 12 miles to the N. of Bellingham. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Durham, value £75, in the patronage of the Rector of Elsdon. The church was rebuilt in 1793.
